Slim Richey's Monster JazzGrass Band

Slim Richey’s Monster JazzGrass Band is a concept band grounded in the idea of bluegrass players playing jazz, swing and be-bop on acoustic (bluegrass) instruments. The touchstone of the idea is the influential album from 1977, Slim Richey’s JazzGrass on Ridge Runner label in the U.S.A. and on Trio Records in Japan and presently available in CD format on Buffalo Records in Japan and Ridge Runner Records in the U.S.A. Players on the original album included Ricky Skaggs, Sam Bush, Richard Greene, Bill Keith, Joe Carr, Dan Huckabee, Gerald Jones and Alan Munde. Prominent players at various festival gigs of the Monster JazzGrass Band include Jethro Burns, Texas Shorty, and Tim O’Brien. The Monster JazzGrass Band line-up for the 2008 Old Settlers Festival concert include Warren Hood on fiddle & vocal, Ross Holmes – mandolin, Alan Munde – banjo, Slim Richey – guitar, and Francie Meaux Jeaux on bass, to name the core band.

Slim Richey’s Monster JazzGrass Band Members include:

Slim Richey, the most dangerous guitar player in Texas, has played and recorded with quite a few biggies including Herb Ellis, Marc Johnson, Maryann Price, Marty Stuart, David Amram, Ricky Skaggs, Wayne the Train Hancock, and Ray Price, toured Japan twice, Italy three times, and on and on. He’s internationally recognized for his distinct style of Southwestern jazz guitar and is equally adept at blues, bluegrass, western swing and gypsy jazz. Richey helped to pioneer the improvisational bluegrass movement with his 1977 classic album, JazzGrass. www.myspace.com/slimrichey
