Youth Competition Entries Extended Till March 15th

We are looking for a few good artists — 18 years of age and under — to enter our Youth Talent Competition.  Specifically, if you play acoustic music as a solo performer or with a band (maximum five members),  you’re eligible to enter Old Settler’s Music Festival’s Youth Band Competition.

You’ll be asked to a play a maximum of a 15 minute set of material in the Americana roots music tradition — bluegrass, country, blues, gospel or traditional. Only acoustic instruments are permitted — no amplifiers, electronics or drum sets. The competition takes place on the Bluebonnet Stage Saturday morning beginning at 10:45 am.

The first place winner receives a $200 prize, plus a 20 minute set on the Bluebonnet Stage this year, and a 45 minute set on the Hill Country stage in 2015.  The second place winner receives $100 and the third place winner receives $50.  There is a limit of approximately 10 contestants.

Our Youth Talent Competition receives stellar applicants — our first winner in 2002 was Sarah Jarosz.  Other past winners include Katy Kirby, Grace London and Emily Elbert.

There is no additional fee to register for the contest. Please note that festival ticket rules apply — kids 13 and over are charged the same fee as adults with the exception of youth competition participants. Each participant must be accompanied by a paying adult.  Fill out an entry form by March 15, 2014.
