Jean Spivey became involved with Old Settler’s after moving to Austin in 1997. In 1999, she was hired to market the festival. In 2007, she became Executive Director. As the only full-time staff member, her responsibilities include talent buying, marketing, budgeting and bookkeeping, administration, sponsorship coordination, and artist relations. She is grateful for the dedication and commitment of the volunteer corps (600+ strong) and the Board of
Directors, without which, the festival would not be possible. Ms. Spivey also teaches “Concert Promotion and Venue Management" at Austin Community College, and has been an adjunct professor at St. Edwards University, University of Hartford, and Yale School of Drama. She has a degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Hartford. She lives in south Austin with her husband Karl Hereim, who festival goers may recognize from his volunteer work as an emcee, and 16-year-old daughter Blake, who is a volunteer on the Green (Trash) Team.
